Budget: Being savvy on a budget

Who doesn’t like to go the extra mile, and just doe everything a little bit nicer in a tad more style. I do. I bloody love being a bit extra in the most random of places for no reason. It just levels up aspects of your life and makes the day a tad brighter, in the most random of ways. Here’s a few savvy b hacks when you’re on a budget (because the kicker for being savvy is doing it on a budget, no self respecting stylish queen is not being savvy and doing it on limited funds). That’s part of the trickery and I wouldn’t say deception, but you don’t want people to know what’s going on behind the scenes. It’s a fun game.

Numero uno; train tickets. You can change tickets if you’re in a pinch on ticket master (click manage booking and then change date and time). Often an admin fee will apply but it’s worth noting if last minute plans change. The real steal here is seat frog. The app enables you to bid to upgrade your ticket to first class on most train lines, prices range from between 10 and 20 or upgrade right away for 20. Considerably cheaper than booking out right; you’ll receive drinks, snacks and an appropriate meal. The chocolate mousse is to die for, I would be buried in it. If your ticket hasn't been scanned request a refund on ticket master, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Pot luck.

Clothes and bags are expensive, especially good ones. The trick here is to search for brand sample sale instagrams. Some will sell on depop or vinted but Instagram will be cheaper and often it’s more fun trying to bid on an item before it’s snatched up by another savvy shopper. Make your money work smarter not harder.

The big sister swap is another Instagram you should be following. The system works by sending off your own old clothes, they’re graded, and then you can either select what fancy new items you’d like or be sent a selection based on your tastes. You choice. It’s a lovely way to refresh your wardrobe sustainably and responsibly. Big sister swap are excellent at curating outfits you’ll want to wear so you’re in safe hands.

You’ve got the outfit, you’ve got the transport - now where are you going? Free drinks are always a winner, and more so free food. Look out on uni days and bars or restaurants social media channels for offers or dining deals. Pizza express is usually a stellar example, as is turtle bay with offering free gift cards. If saving money but having a nice time is the goal, then you’re in luck.
